Biography
Ivana Španović was born on May 10, 1990, in Zrenjanin, Serbia. She began training in athletics at a very early age, and already in her junior years it became clear that she was an exceptional talent. Her first major international achievements came in youth categories, where she won the title of World Junior Champion.
Her entry into senior competition was not sudden, but carefully built. The first major turning point came at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where she reached the final and finished eighth.
Only a year later, at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Ivana won the bronze medal. The year 2016 became one of the defining points of her career. The Olympic medal stood as the culmination of a long cycle of work.
At the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, she won gold in front of a home crowd, and in 2023 in Budapest she achieved perhaps the greatest single result of her career by winning gold at the World Championships outdoors.
